Award-winning Scottish singer songwriter Elaine Lennon releases her singe, THIS - The '21 Remix, on all major digital platforms to mark the one-year anniversary of her acclaimed self-titled debut album.
EXCLUSIVE TO BANDCAMP - THIS – The ‘21 Remix is part of this five-song EP bundle charting the journey of the song from work tape to remix, also featuring THIS - The '21 Remix Extended version, THIS - The Paul Savage Album Mix, THIS - The Elaine Lennon Work Tape and THIS - LIVE at the sold-out Celtic Connections Album Launch 2020.
THIS – The ‘21 Remix, out Sunday 24 January 2021 on all major digital platforms, is a captivating reworking of a track taken from the album which launched to a sold-out show at Celtic Connections in January 2020 and won Celtic Music Radio’s Album of the Year 2020 Award.
The album was originally produced by Findlay Napier and supported by Creative Scotland. The song THIS has been revisited by producer Mark Freegard in his Glasgow home studio, to dramatic effect.
Amplifying the brooding darkness of the original song, Mark’s use of synths influenced by human breathe allows the song to take on a trance-like quality and sees Elaine’s exquisite vocals taking centre stage.
Where THIS championed a classic singer-songwriter sound, featuring guitar and bass, THIS – The ‘21 Remix has developed into something very current, with a sense of drama, akin to the sound of American electropop singer-songwriter Ruelle.
Elaine said: “With this track I wanted to really stretch the musical landscape and push the boundaries of what the song was capable of becoming. I’m thrilled with the tremendous cinematic feel that Mark has created.”
The track gives a glimpse into Elaine’s musical development and hints at what else is to come in 2021.
Elaine continued: “This release reflects the musical journey I have been on this year and where I am now in 2021. I’m used to writing and performing on the piano with minimal instrumentation so it’s exciting to experiment with this new sound. It’s been a joy to see the track taken to different level artistically and I’m delighted to kick off the new year by sharing it.”
The 12 months that have passed since the song’s original release have seen so much change in the world, which seem to be reflected in the track’s original lyrics and dark feel.
THIS - The ’21 Remix follows the release of Elaine’s highly acclaimed charity single Uncharted Waters, which had support from a raft of talent including Boo Hewerdine, Karine Polwart, Findlay Napier, Chris While, Yvonne Lyon and Siobhan Miller. The song raised funds for University Hospital Wishaw, Paediatrics Unit, where her son was treated.
Following her first live appearance in December 2018, Elaine collected the prestigious Celtic Connections Danny Kyle Open Stage Award in January 2019 and was named as Nashville Songwriters’ Association International 2019 ‘One To Watch’.
